Orono Lake Map – Sherburne County – Minnesota

Lake Orono is perhaps my best example of a lake not needing to be large or deep to be utterly fascinating. My dear friend Brian asked me about making a map of his lake, Orono. The lake itself is only about 12 feet deep, and at 300 acres, it's not a large map. Nonetheless, I was able to get my hands on map data that one of Brian's neighbors made of the lake using his own gear. This allowed me to map the map in 1 foot layer increments, meaning every layer of the map represents 1 foot in depth. This lake also has a bridge on the east side, which was the most challenging part of the map to design - not the bridge itself, but the 6 layers of depth underneath, which I had to squeeze both sides of into less than a half inch width. To this day it is one of my most challenging and favorite maps. 

Brian took this to his neighborhood get together, and his neighbors purchased 10 more maps of Lake Orono. It was fun meeting them as I delivered the maps in person.
